Bob Marley- Get up Stand up
Lyrics
Get up, stand up (Oh yeah) stand up for your rights (Lord, Lord)
Get up, stand up (In the morning) stand up for your rights (Stand up for your rights)
Get up, stand up (Stand up for your life) stand up for your rights (Stand up for your life)
Get up, stand up (Stand up for your life) don't give up the fight!
Oh I say
Preacher man, don't tell me
Heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know
What life is really worth
It's not all that glitters is gold
'Alf the story has never been told
So now you see the light, eh
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up (Lord, Lord) stand up for your rights (What you got to give?)
Get up, stand up (For the life you live) don't give up the fight (Yeah)
Get up, stand up (Life is your right) stand up for your rights (Without life you can't fight)
Get up, stand up (Keep the good time calling) don't give up the fight (Oh Lord)
Most people think
Great god will come from the skies
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You will look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your rights jah
Get up, stand up! (Jah, jah!)
Stand up for your rights! (Oh-hoo!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Don't give up the fight! (Life is your right!)
Get up, stand up! (So we can't give up the fight!)
Stand up for your rights! (Lord, lord!)
Get up, stand up! (Keep on struggling on!)
Don't give up the fight! (Yeah!)
We sick an' tired of-a your ism-schism game
Dyin' 'n' goin' to heaven in-a Jesus' name, lord
We know when we understand
Almighty god is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can't fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light (What you gonna do?)
We gonna stand up for our rights! (Yeah, yeah, yeah!)
So you better
Get up, stand up! (In the morning! git it up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Stand up for our rights!)
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight! (Don't give it up, don't give it up!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! (Don't be a neighbour in your neighbourhood)
Don't give up the fight! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! (I don't think that should be very good, Lord)
Stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight
What does it ask for?
The song is asking the audience to stand up for there own rights.
What is the message?
The message is to stand up for your own rights.

Media Language:
How the media through their forms, codes, conventions and techniques communicate meanings.
Media representation:
How the media portrays real life events, issues, individual and social groups.
Media Industries:
How the media industries' processes of production, distribution and circulation affect media forms and platforms.
Media Audience:
How media forms target, reach and address audiences, how audiences interpret and respond to them and how members of audiences become producers themselves.
Who is Plato?
'Rhythm and harmony are regulated by the words and not the words by them'.
Plato described the true meaning of words, he explained how powerful words could be when describing something. nowadays, songwriters would use this to discuss nowadays issues and problems.
'We would not have our guardians grow up amid images of moral deformity ... little by little until they silently gather a festering mass of corruption in their own soul.'
What do they think exposure to rebellious music or poetry will create?
Plato thought that it would cause more trouble to society if people rebelled against this unfair society. Plato's thought on the society was that if we imagined a perfect world with equal rights then the real world would be fixed. However, rebellious music helps the audience understand the dark truth of the world, how messed up it is and how unfair / unequal the society is.
The Bigger Picture - Lil Baby
Lyrics
Protests and growing national outcry continues
Over the death of George Floyd
Last night, people protesting in Minneapolis escalated
As demonstrators were lashed by tear gas and rubber bullets
The main message here, the main message here, the main message here
Is that they want to see those officers involved
They want to see those officers arrested
Officers arrested
(I can't breathe, I can't breathe)
Trade my 4 x 4 for a G63, ain't no more free Lil Steve
I gave 'em chance and chance and chance again
I even done told them please
I find it crazy the police'll shoot you and know that you dead
But still tell you to freeze
Fucked up, I seen what I seen
I guess that mean hold him down if he say he can't breathe
It's too many mothers that's grieving
They killing us for no reason
Been going on for too long to get even
Throw us in cages like dogs and hyenas
I went to court and they sent me to prison
My mama was crushed when they said I can't leave
First I was drunk, then I sobered up quick
When I heard all that time that they gave to Taleeb
He got a life sentence plus
We just some products of our environment
How the fuck they gon' blame us?
You can't fight fire with fire
I know, but at least we can turn up the flames some
Every colored person ain't dumb and all whites not racist
I be judging by the mind and heart, I ain't really into faces
Fucked up, the way that we livin' is not getting better
You gotta know how to survive
Crazy, I had to tell all of my loved ones
To carry a gun when they going outside
Stare in the mirror whenever you drive
Overprotective, go crazy for mine
You gotta pay attention to the signs
Seem like the blind following the blind
Thinking 'bout everything that's going on
I boost security up at my home
I'm with my kind if they right or they wrong
I call him now, he'll pick up the phone
And it's five in the morning, he waking up on it
Tell 'em wherever I'm at, then they comin'
I see blue lights, I get scared and start runnin'
That shit be crazy, they 'posed to protect us
Throw us in handcuffs and arrest us
While they go home at night, that shit messed up
Knowing we needed help, they neglect us
Wondering who gon' make them respect us
I can see in your eye that you fed up
Fuck around, got my shot, I won't let up
They know that we a problem together
They know that we can storm any weather
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
Fuck it, I'm goin' on the front line
He gon' bust your ass if you come past that gun line
You know when the storm go away, then the sun shine
You gotta put your head in the game when it's crunch time
I want all my sons to grow up to be monsters
I want all my daughters to show out in public
Seems like we losing our country
But we gotta stand up for something, so this what it comes to
Every video I see on my conscience
I got power, now I gotta say somethin'
Corrupted police been the problem where I'm from
But I'd be lying if I said it was all of them
I ain't do this for the trend, I don't follow them
Altercations with the law, had a lot of them
People speaking for the people, I'm proud of them
Stick together, we can get it up out of them
I can't lie like I don't rap about killing and dope
But I'm telling my youngins to vote
I did what I did 'cause I didn't have no choice or no hope
I was forced to just jump in and go
This bullshit is all that we know, but it's time for a change
Got time to be serious, no time for no games
We ain't takin' no more, let us go from them chains
God bless they souls, every one of them names
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
They trainin' officers to kill us
Then shootin' protestors with these rubber bullets
They regular people, I know that they feel it
These scars too deep to heal us
What happened to COVID? Nobody remember
It ain't makin' sense, I'm just here to vent
It happen to one of your people, it's different
We get it, the system is wicked, just learn how to pick it
Knowledge is power, I swear I'm a witness, I know that I'm gifted
I won't go too deep 'cause I'm scared they'll get me
Ain't scared to admit it, some shit I can't mention
It's people who can, well, here's the chance
I won't take the stand, but I'll take a stand for what I believe
Must not be breathing the air that I breathe
You know that the way that I bleed, you can bleed
I never been a fan of police
But my neighborhood know I try to keep peace
So it's only right that I get in the streets
March for a reason, not just on GP
Our people died for us to be free
Fuck do you mean? This was a dream
Now we got the power that we need to have
They don't want us with it and that's why they mad, yeah
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
The lyrics explain how the police is ignorant when a police officer killed an innocent black guy in 2020. The Lyrics explained how black people struggle with racism, and the message in the song is to fight against the corrupted system on how people portray black people are criminals.
It also talks about how innocent black people get killed daily for nothing and the song emphasises the message in the lyrics "It's bigger than black and white It's a problem with the whole way of life It can't change overnight But we gotta start somewhere" expresses the message to fight for your freedom.

Superheros - Stormzy
Lyrics
Don't die on me
I said
Young black king, don't die on me
You're my brother, you're my keeper
I need you to keep an eye on me
And no more fighting on the streets
Walking 'round with all this pride on me
Shit, shit's tough for us already
Know that you can still rely on me
Please, just stay alive for me
And my young black queens, don't quit now (yeah)
You're the only ones that got us
I could never let my sis down
You been too strong, for too long
Yet, still you never sit down, wow
That's the power of your loving
And it's worthy of a king's crown
And still you never let your kings down
Even though most times, we don't deserve it
The picture isn't pretty, but it's perfect
Tedious pressures, so then I curve it
Serena or Venus, the way I serve it
I'm Mallory Blackman, the way I sell books
I jump on the stage, and then the world looks
All that banging' on my door, had my girl shook
Now sorry officer, I only sell hooks
Leave me alone
Every little L I took, I hold it close to home
Live and you learn, they'll always hate me for my tone
For the shade of my skin
And not the courage of my bones
Now, I'm misunderstood
Now, I'm feeling like Nina Simone
The way I toured the world
Would have thought that I was Sims
See her on stage, I know that women can be kings
I know that's fucked, they're overlooking what you bring
I know shit's all good, but it's just the little things
Black queen you're immaculate
It's coming at the world
They ain't ready for your magic yet
And that was never your fault
Man, I guess they couldn't hack it yet
World domination, and you ain't even
Taken off your jacket yet
So effortlessly fabulous
And my young black kings I hope it pays off
Go and show 'em what you're made of
Trying to scare us with some things
That we are no longer afraid of
Men are superheroes, let me see you take off
I pray you never take your cape off
Even though most times, we don't fly straight
If I trust you bro, I promise we gon' die great
Our burdens are heavy, but we ain't light weights
Our parents were legends, they had to migrate
So that's a reason not to sit around and chat shit
I'm from the place where Michael Dapaah made a smash hit
Where you can be a rapper, if rap you sick
They're screaming, "What a flippin' time to be a black Brit!"
We so alive, whole world gone out their minds
But no we ride, tried to push us all to the side
We know our rights
Now we get the whole of the pie, then go inside
When you see that merky flag in the sky
Just know it's I
The way I topped the charts
Would've thought that I was Dave
I am young, black, beautiful and brave
Know that it's fucked, they're overlooking what we gave
I know shits all good, so we pray for better days
Pray they better than before (better than before)
Young black king, you are everything and more (you are everything and more)
I know one song's not enough to settle scores (not enough to settle scores)
But from the bottom of my heart
Man, I hope you're getting yours (getting yours)
Man, I hope you're getting yours (getting yours)
Young black queen, get your shine on
All I see is innovators, and a bag of icons
You can go and ask the whole world
Where they got they style from?
That's you, that's us, God's time
And he never gets the time wrong
I guess we just some ticking time bombs
We soon blow (boom)
I can make world come true
All my dreams will see me through
And if that won't get me down
My dreams will turn things all around
With a smile upon my face
I can see a better place
Doesn't matter what may come my way
Believe me now, I will win some day
Are these as obvious as the American Hip-Hop?
The similarities of American and British rap is close as they talk about the same issues but from different areas. American hip-hop talks about the history that the people had suffered and it could also been seemed in British hip-hop however in stormy's song he mentioned how his parents had to migrate from the poor countries to survive.
Do they focus on localised issues?
The urban area that Stormy grew up was racist this could be seen in the Lyrics:
Every little L I took,
I hold it close to home
Live and you learn, they'll always hate me for my tone
For the shade of my skin
And not the courage of my bones
Stormzy mentions in the lyrics " they'll always hate me for my tone, For the shade of my skin" linking to the racism stormzy had to face. This links with the question as even though his parents migrated from a poor country he still gets hate for his colour.
What do his lyrics tell us about his attitude?
And my young black kings I hope it pays off
Go and show 'em what you're made of
Trying to scare us with some things
That we are no longer afraid of
Men are superheroes, let me see you take off
I pray you never take your cape off
The Lyrics explain that no matter how long they suffered from racism they are standing up for the rights and fighting against the corrupted system, the listeners are given a brief explanation on what black people are going to do to fight against the system and also tell that today is the time to fight against the dark history they suffered, Black people are represented as super heros and how they are going to change history, creating a balanced life, where people aren't treated differently because of there skin colour.
Does Rose's Theory apply?
And my young black queens, don't quit now (yeah)
You're the only ones that got us
I could never let my sis down
You been too strong, for too long
Yet, still you never sit down, wow
That's the power of your loving
And it's worthy of a king's crown
And still you never let your kings down
Stormzy not only talks about black men but also talks about how black women are strong for standing up for sexism and racism. the lyrics " you been too strong, for too long, yet, still you never sit down, wow Thats the power of your loving" mentions how strong they are for standing up for there rights and could apply to Rose's Theory as she mentions that Rap musics mentions not only mens but also women's Struggle and Stormzy's song is a good example. Black women not only had to suffer from racism but also sexism and Stormzy mentioned there struggles; its not only mens struggle but women also.
Who uses their music today to reflect the social injustices in society?
Changes - 2Pac
Lyrics
Come on, come on
I see no changes, wake up in the morning, and I ask myself
Is life worth living, should I blast myself?
I'm tired of bein' poor, and even worse I'm black
My stomach hurts, so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a negro
Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares
One less hungry mouth on the welfare
First, ship 'em dope and let 'em deal the brothers
Give 'em guns, step back, watch 'em kill each other
It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said
Two shots in the dark, now Huey's dead
I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere
Unless we share with each other
We gotta start makin' changes
Learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers
And that's how it's supposed to be
How can the devil take a brother, if he's close to me?
I'd love to go back to when we played as kids
But things changed, and that's the way it is
Come on, come on
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is
Ooh, yeah
Come on, come on
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is
Aww, yeah
I see no changes, all I see is racist faces
Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under, I wonder what it takes to make this
One better place, let's erase the wasted
Take the evil out the people, they'll be acting right
'Cause mo' black and white is smokin' crack tonight
And only time we chill is when we kill each other
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
And although it seems heaven sent
We ain't ready, to see a black President
It ain't a secret, don't conceal the fact
The penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks
But some things will never change
Try to show another way but you stayin' in the dope game
Now tell me, what's a mother to do?
Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you
You gotta operate the easy way
(I made a G today) But you made it in a sleazy way
Sellin' crack to the kid (I gotta get paid)
Well, hey, well, that's the way it is
Come on, come on
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is
Aww, yeah
Come on, come on
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is
Aww, yeah
We gotta make a change
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes
Let's change the way we eat
Let's change the way we live
And let's change the way we treat each other
You see, the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
What we gotta do, to survive
And still I see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace?
There's war in the streets and war in the Middle East
Instead of war on poverty, they got a war on drugs
So the police can bother me
And I ain't never did a crime, I ain't have to do
But now, I'm back with the facts givin' 'em back to you
Don't let 'em jack you up, back you up
Crack you up and pimps smack you up
You gotta learn to hold ya own
They get jealous when they see ya, with ya mobile phone
But tell the cops, they can't touch this
I don't trust this, when they try to rush, I bust this
That's the sound of my tool, you say it ain't cool?
But mama didn't raise no fool
And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped
And I never get to lay back
'Cause I always got to worry 'bout the pay backs
Some buck that I roughed up way back
Comin' back after all these years
Rat-a-tat, tat, tat, tat, that's the way it is
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is (Way it is)
Aww, yeah
That's just the way it is
Things will never be the same
That's just the way it is
Aww, yeah
Some things will never change
I see no changes, wake up in the morning, and I ask myself
Is life worth living, should I blast myself?
I'm tired of bein' poor, and even worse I'm black
My stomach hurts, so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a negro
Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares
One less hungry mouth on the welfare
The song Changes by 2Pac explains how when the song was made after 40 years of fighting there is still racism and how tired he is of facing racism and him being misjudged as a criminal and a thief by the society. beginning of the second verse he explains how cops are getting praised as heros for killing innocent black people, and the first verse explains how he's being misjudged as a criminal and a thief by the society. The song explains how long they fought for there freedom and nothing has changed, this could be seen in the quote " I see no changes " emphasise the fact how hard they fought. Platos theory links to this song as the song pictures a even balanced world even though they still struggle with racism. Changes links to the plato theory as 2Pac hasn't seen the changes he wants to see in the world, He pictures a better world with an even balanced world where people aren't judged by their skin colour.
The song Where is the love by The Black Eyed Peas addressed issues including terrorism, racism, gang crime, pollution, war, intolerance, and violence against LGBT people and how in the world today people are still suffering from those issues. The song also talks about the 9/11 terrorist attack that occurred in 2001. The terrorist attack left numerous people in shock for decades losing their loved ones in the attack, traumatising the whole of America. The Lyrics:
Selfishness got us followin' the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the mediaNegative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
talks about how the media covers the truth side of the world and doesn't let people see the truth in what people suffer on day to day basis. The Lyrics talks about how media always covers the negative side of the media and people are Influenced by wrong information the media is putting out, The media always hide the struggles especially racism or sexism, The people who run the media covers the negative parts of the government or society.
The song this is America by childish Gambino talks about guns and violence in America and the fact that we deal with them and consume them as part of entertainment on one hand, and on the other hand, is a part of our national conversation. The song address the issues that guns do to people and how the government hasn't done anything to stop gun violence in America. The lyrics:
Police be trippin' now (woo)
Yeah, this is America (woo, ayy)
Guns in my area (word, my area)
I got the strap (ayy, ayy)
I gotta carry 'em
Yeah, this is America (woo, ayy)
Guns in my area (word, my area)
I got the strap (ayy, ayy)
I gotta carry 'em
makes it seem causally and normal to carry weapons, which in the UK is the opposite as guns have been banned, the fact that the song makes it seem as normal to carry guns is scary as nothing has been done to help with reducing murder rates in America.

Media Theory - Gender and Bond
L/O: to investigate the principles behind gender theories.
To discuss various theories.
To critically apply theory to texts.
Mulvey Theory - Mulvey's theory suggested that hollywood women where 'Male gaze'. they were positioned by media and has dominated feminist readings; to see women as objects to be looked at as pleasure for the male viewers. They have no power or purpose other than pleasure enjoyment by the male viewer.
Kaplan Theory - When men step out of the traditional role, the female role is taken into the masculine role and now are presented by as cold, driving, ambitious, manipulating, the female losses attractiveness and is treated different when she is acting a masculine role.
Smelik Theory - When women are posed as a threat, females power is often removed and does not post a threat at the end, The female villain often dies or marries the hero in the film at the end,
Females characters
Victim/Villian - the vicim is confident, sexualised in the shower, lost power when James bond didn't react to her pointing a gun at her. Shower, James Bond hit the victim, 1974 - audience exception of women, objectified more. Smelik Theory
Dancer - the dancer is confident, sexualised, Accepting James bond's sexual advances. Dancing scene, belly close- up, initiated a sexual counter. Women are for the pleasure of men. Mulvey theory
Agent - Crush on James Bond, Desperate to see James Bond. Agrees to go to dinner with him, Leaves the agent, doesn't care for her she waits for him. Mulvey theory
Secretary - Formally dressed, Innuendo. Conversation initiated by her. Women are there to please men. Mulvey theory
The females in the James Bond film are represented as confident and they are over sexualised, This can be seemed in the shower scene. The victim in the shower scene is sexualised as James Bond doesn't knock when the women is in the shower, the women in the scene is seemed as an object and for mens pleasure as we see James bond gazing at her in the shower. This can be linked to Mulvey's theory, as she is represented for pleasure enjoyment and has no important role in the scene but for pleasure. The scene after the shower scene, the audience are shocked as the women pulls out a gun and points it at James Bond, however, The victim loses the power as James Bond shows no reaction and dominates the women leaving her powerless and weak, this can be linked to Kaplan's theory as the women was given a gun but was defeated in the end and was represented as weak. She is shortly guided to the bed and James Bond hit the women in the face, this can link to 1974 as it was normal to hit a women and was seemed as heroic if the women disagreed to the mans commands, the men is able to hit the women, this can link to how men were treated as objects and the James Bond film perfectly summaries that. The last scene, we are shocked to find out that the victim is actually the villain, however, the villain is quickly manipulated and she falls in love with James Bond, this can link to Smelik's theory as the female posed a threat to James Bond , her power is quickly removed and is now seemed as weak, She falls in Love with James Bond.
Females in the James Bond Film is represented as sex objects and pleasure of the male audiences, this can be proven in the scene when James Bond is looking at an attractive women with her body exposed and she is dancing for what could be seem as rich white males. The Close ups of the female part, she is then represented as an object and for males pleasure, she is also represented as disposable and she can be replaced.

Media Theory: Gender and bond beyond.
L.O: To investigate the principles behind gender theories.
to discuss various theories.
to critically apply theory to texts.
Starter:
The angle used in the picture is a eye level medium close up and it was used to show the 2 characters in the scene, the both characters in the scene are both equal in the sense of representation as both the female and James bond is Dressed in luxury clothes. however the female is pleased and could be represented as an object in the scene as she could be seemed as weak and vulnerable. Mulveys theory said how females are for males gaze and have no possession of power and purpose, and are for males pleasure, Smeliks theory explained explained how when the female has the role of a villain, therefore the narrative manipulates that and at the end the female is left powerless and weak, she is left with marrying the main character or she dies.
Spectre analysis
Scene 1:
- at the start is was neutral, women had purpose in the scene, she had importance and had the main role as she lead James Bond.
- the female is in the background, not in shot, has no purpose.
- at the end, she is entitled to the bed, James Bond ignores her and moves on, she is disposable and presented as weak.
Scene 2:
- Widow at the start is the middle, in focus, has importance, she was grieved, Smeliks theory appeals to the widow as she was married to the villain, she was used by James Bond, The use of sad music, The dialogue is rather focused on James Bond rather than the widow, The widow at the end is left on the bed, dressed in exposed clothes and she is left to die after giving information. Bennet's Theory links to the scene when the female is left weak and James Bond takes advantage of her body and uses her for pleasure and as a object she is left grieved.
Scene 3:
- Dr swan - at the start she has the possession of power, she asks James Bond questions,
How is gender represented in the extract ?
Females are represented as weak and vulnerable in Spectre, this can be presented in the Widow Scene. At the start the widow is in the middle, she is in focus with Long shot of her in the middle while her husband is getting carried away. The widow has importance in the sad scene as she shows her emotions, she is in focus and we see her emotion clearly as she is left grieved. The dialogue between James Bond and the Widow, the role changes, she is out of focus and the Dialogue focuses on James Bond. The scene when the widow is back at her house, The close up of her face we see James Bond treating her like an object, she is left powerless and vulnerable, she is dominated and we see she is sad with the widow's eye tearing up as she is grieved. This can be linked to Bennett's theory as the widow is left damaged sexually and left powerless, James Bond uses the Widow for information regarding her husband who is the Villain, the Widow takes the possession of the Villain but in the House Scene we see she has no possession in power and this can be linked to Smelik's theory, when the female takes the Role of a villain, the narrative manipulates that power and at the end she is left vulnerable and powerless. At the end of the Scene, the women is left on the bed, dressed sexually and this can link to mulvey's theory as at the end of the scene she is over sexualised by the use of her clothes and she is then presented as an object, she is also represented as disposable, James Bond leaves the female on the bed and she is left in danger.

Media theory: Mass consumption
L.O: to investigate the principles of mass consumption.
To discuss various theories related to mass consumption and audience.
To critically apply theory to text.
Media Language is the way in which the meaning of a media text is conveyed to the audience.
During the second world war, propagandas was used to persuade solider to join the battle, the use of printed poster this became a well know technique to persuade people. The use of printed posters, helped improve the standard of living as well help the evolution of advertising. however consumerism is not recent as in the 19th century, as they saw the origin of the department store. the emergence of the middle class who had an increased purchasing power through the gain of money through the industrial revolution.
a big collection of things is what makes up the capitalist society. it has meaning behind it and thats what makes it valuable.
The adverts shown below links to Marx theory. The both adverts are a perfume and a chocolate advert, the use of rich clothes as well as the use of yellow/ gold colour palette could imply that they both are high in value. Typography is also another way that could imply that both of the advert links to the theory. For example, the Chanel advert would target their products to different classes this being upper, middle and bottom class, they would purposely prevent certain classes to use their product and they would lead the product to popularity decreasing the value of the perfume. The use of a posh setting, this could link to the target audience which are the upper class and could possible link to fetishised commodity, which that talks about the realtionship between the production and exchange rather than the people it themseleves. Chanel would target rich audience as the limited audience increases the value of the product as more rich people buy the product.
The Maslow's theory could link to the advert as the target audience could be the upper class. maslow's hierarchy of needs could link to the upper class as they have wealth and power, that would mean the top of the chart on Maslow's needs which is self actualisation, this would mean that the audience would have the power to increase the value of the product and this would link to the succeeders as they have the status and control of the product.
The Boss perfume advert represent white males as wealth and dominant, this is used to attract the upper class audience to the product as they would agree to the reading of the advert. The use of Chris Hemsworth persuades the audience to buy the product as they use a celebrity in the advert on purpose to attract the male audience. The Eye level Medium shot of Chris Hemsworth in rich clothes could imply the target audience of the product this being the upper class. Rich perfume products purposely target rich audience as they have possession of wealth and power, this increases the value of the product and this would limit the other classes to buy the product. This can be applied to Marx's theory as he mentions that that capitalist society uses techniques such as persuasion to mock lower classes and would use rich product as a way to flex money and power. The use of rich clothing and the blue colour palette in the product could imply that the product is targeted for males who are in possession of wealth, this can be furthered emphasises through the use of a white successful male actor Chris Hemsworth. Rubicam's theory apply to this advert as they would use a wealth white actor who is well known for this strength in the fictional character Thor, this links to how masculine this advert is, The succeeders would be linked to this advert as they have possession of power and wealth this advert represented the Succeeders as a masculine group of people who has the power to persuade the lower classes and mock their wealth to the poor.

Bad Boys starts with Will Smith and Martin Laurence driving what could be an expensive car, running away from the cops. The scene carries on with intense shot angles and music, but the scene breaks when this intense scene turns into a normal chase. Will Smith and Martin Laurence would make jokes in a serious scene, this could link to the Halls theory which talks about different variants of character in Films and one of them is Clown / entertainer but could also link to how The Main protagonist characters are the " the funny black man ".
Black Panther different racial representation:
- The people of wakanda are presented are strong, intelligent and humble. They are presented to show how strong there culture is, and how they keep there culture even if its 1000 years old. We see this in the Museum as the old artefacts of are there for display.

Media Theory: Masculinity
LO: To investigate how representation of masculinity differ.
To discuss various theories on masculinity
To critically apply theory to texts and explore the impact of the representation.
During the 1960's, there was a problem in equality, this meant that men were treated more superior compared to the females. However, men could not live to the expectation to what society wanted men to live to, this lead to a decrease in the equality gap for males, and was also the rise of Feminism and gay rights, as females began to work on there own, the females began to rise in the equality. Faludi's theory recognised that men would struggle to fit in the environment.
The poster from the 1960s, uses a hip level low angle shot, of a men who seems to be stepping on a female, this sexist poster was representing the society and how females were treated like objects. The female in the poster is looking up at the audience, she is represented as weak and defenceless, The male in the poster is represented as Superior and a hero, the duality between females and males back in 1960s, was that females was treated like an object, they had to do all the jobs at home, however, during the 1960s, the end of this was when the feminist movement occurred, this lead to females fighting against the system, This was a success and women no longer was treated differently.
Barthes - semiology
Denotations are statistics and statements are a visible to the audience, For Example - A poster of a males perfume, The denotation is what we see and Connotation is the meaning behind the Denotation.
A male in a suit is denotation.
A man in a suit could symbolise his worth and how wealth he - that is connotation.
The male in the poster is represented to be a gentlemen, he is shown to hold the umbrella for the lady while it is raining. That way the advert represents the masculinity in a positive way as it takes the new side of masculinity in todays world. However, in the advert the female is represented to have no purpose and has no face, that way the poster still has the tradition of men being more superior but the advert tries to go against that message and show the good side of masculinity. The advert could also be sexist as in the advert, the male is in focus and the female isn't therefore emphasising the upper classes view on masculinity. The use of long shot, the advert presents both of the models in the advert, also the use of the blue colour palette symbolise masculinity and how this product is gender specific with the consumers of the product.
